Public Works Maintenance II - Utilities
The City of Rogers is accepting applications for the position of a full-time Public Works Maintenance II – Utilities position. The main job duties of the position include maintenance and repair of water, sewer, drainage ways, snow plowing and other duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications include: two year technical degree or certificate in a related maintenance or public works field, valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License, knowledge or experience in utility maintenance related areas, and six months experience with truck, light equipment, and general maintenance.

POSITION SUMMARY
Perform maintenance and repair of streets, drainage ways, traffic signs and other duties as assigned by Public Works Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Water
Routine hydrant maintenance, flushing
Street
Maintain and repair streets including patching potholes, sweeping streets, removing debris, placing cones or barricades around hazards, etc.
Maintain shoulders and mow ditches for all non-sidewalk streets
May perform sidewalk repair and patching; removes cement and prepares area for sidewalk replacement
Parks
Assist with maintenance of the City Parks when requested by the Public Works Superintendent
Utilities
Install and repair utilities as needed including main breaks, line plugging and maintenance
Meter reading for City’s utility billing system
Locator for municipal underground utilities
Snow Removal
Operate loaders, tractors, and trucks to remove snow from City streets and municipal parking lots during winter
Operate sander and applies salt to roadways, sidewalks, and municipal parking lots
Operate all light equipment used in a safe and efficient manner to include, but not limited to the following: light trucks, tractors, front end loader, road grader, back hoe, single and tandem axle dump truck, skidsteer, street sweeper and miscellaneous hand and power tools
Perform minor maintenance work and repairs on equipment operated
Coordinate major repairs with Public Works Superintendent
Assist other Public Works personnel in miscellaneous tasks

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, training requirements, etc.

Willingness to work long and unusual hours when weather conditions cause snow removal or for other emergency or unusual maintenance requirements
The ability to work in severe weather conditions and temperature extremes
Willingness to be on call when weather conditions may dictate early starts on regular working days and on weekend
Willingness to plan vacations or time off when the chances for emergency or unusual weather conditions are the least expected

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in or on public works equipment, facilities, and grounds in a variety of sometimes extreme weather conditions
Regularly exposed to a variety of hazards including proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals, loud noises, or confined spaces.
The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment under appropriate circumstances
Works on the road or in the road right-of-ways, private property and municipal properties
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for up to 10 hours per day
Ability to bend, crawl, and/or climb
Must be able to grasp, hold and effectively operate precision and simple hand tools and equipment
Work requires lifting up to 80 pounds or more, reaching, shoveling, pounding, digging and sweeping.
Vision must be sufficient to read instructions, distant vision (20/40 or better) and possess depth discrimination
Hearing must be sufficient to detect all warning signals and environmental .
Minnesota DOT Health Card and participation in random drug and/or alcohol testing required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Two year technical degree or certificate in a related maintenance or public works field
Valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License
Knowledge or experience in utility maintenance related areas
Six months experience with truck, light equipment, and general maintenance
